Get to Know Liam’s Story

Six Years After a Severe Brain Injury, Liam Started Speaking Again

Before his injury, Liam was a creative, active 21-year-old who loved music, animation, gaming, and aquatic science. He was studying at Ohio State Newark, writing his own music, and working with children in an after-school program.

Then he had a cardiac arrest and severe anoxic brain injury. Although Liam survived, the effects were devastating. He lost his natural speech, developed severe spasticity in both hands, struggled with balance and independence, and eventually required full-time caregiving support for many daily activities.

Over the next several years, Liam and his family pursued nearly every therapy available. But eventually, they were told speech recovery was no longer realistic and that
progress had plateaued.

Then, nearly six years after his injury, Liam began NeuroAnimation.

The NeuroAnimation Therapy

The immersive therapy experience immediately connected with Liam’s personality and
interests: combining movement, gaming, animation, and real-time interaction in a way
that motivated him to engage intensely.

The original goals were to improve balance, mobility, hand function, and independence. Within months, Liam began making extraordinary progress. He went from frequent falls and needing significant assistance to moving with greater confidence, control, and independence in daily life.

But something else unexpected happened along the way:
Liam began speaking again.

Today, Liam has spoken more than 100 words and continues making progress. His
family has also seen improvements in swallowing, self-feeding, mood, motivation, and
everyday independence.

“He leaves a NeuroAnimation session just beaming.” — Beth, Liam’s mother
For Liam and his family, NeuroAnimation didn’t just create progress—it restored hope.

His story is a powerful reminder that recovery can continue years after a severe brain
injury.
