Kirsten, Age 22

Neurologists told Kirsten her connections were gone and that she would never be able to open her hand again... She did.

Kirsten lives in Portland, OR, and came to Columbus, OH, for the 3-week Neuro Recovery program. She had a brain resection, and 40% of her frontal lobe was removed. Neurologists told her that she would never be able to use her hand again. Kirsten was looking for any movement in her hand after the program.

By the end of the first day, her hand was noticeably more relaxed, allowing her mother to hold it comfortably. At the end of 3 weeks, she developed enough grip strength to lift and voluntarily release objects. For the first time she was able to hold a 5-pound kettlebell for 15 seconds while moving it to different targets, highlighting her improved hand strength and control. She was even able to use her impaired hand to open the door when leaving the therapy center.
